Project Abstract

Equipment type:

Shell and Tube Heat-Exchangers on diesel engines.

Reported issue/Problem:

Engines overheating.

Temperature rising too fast.

Engines choking on higher revs.

Requirement:

De-scale following systems:

  • - S/W side of H-E on FiFi Engines (STB and PRT).
  • - S/W & F/W side of H-E on Aux. Eng. (PRT).

Action taken:
  • - STB FiFi Eng.: 2 h total circulation.
  • - PRT FiFi Eng.: 2 h total circulation.
  • - PRT Aux. Eng.: F/W system circulated for 1,5 h.

Results and recommendations:

FiFi Engines: Yearly descaling due to high scale build ups in pipes and heat-exhangers for both FiFi engines.

Aux. Engine (PRT): Engine showed high levels of scale build-ups on the F/W side, most likely due to too much glycol over a long period of time or hardness level of water used.

It is recommended to pay attention to the glycol mixture in addition to the quality of fresh water to be used. Descaling recommended on a yearly basis.
